Manchester United 7 – 1 Roma

Posted by 2000mph on April 11, 2007

The greatest night of European football ever to grace the pitches of Old Trafford. Roma currently the second best team in all Italy and defiantly a top European side of some class were totally blown away by some of the best quality football your ever likely to see on this earth.

From the very first minute to the very last, United were all over Roma. The play was fast, quick, slick and just brilliant. Smith started upfront as the lone striker with Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs in support and Fletcher and Carrick in the midfield just behind them. It was Fletcher and Smith that put in some impressive work as they spent the whole game bitting at the heels of the Roma players. Their determination gave the rest of the team the chance to push forward and join in.

The opening goal was brilliant from long range. Ronaldo for the wing saw Carrick run into space from the half way line and slotted the ball into his path perfectly for Carrick to hit it straight at goal in one swift movement. Alan Smith got the second with some great passing football setting him up on the edge of the area with a neat shot into the top corner. It was a well deserved goal and its good to have him back for the final run in of the season.

Rooney got the third only seconds after the restart from a really quick break out of our own half and United were 3-0 up after only 20 mins.  Ronaldo got the next two, one just before and one just after half time. It was a shame he didn’t finish his hat trick because as always he looked like he really wanted to just score as many as possible every time he got the ball.

After that Roma were starting to lag knowing the game was lost. However out of almost nothing they managed a consolation goal.  Totti crossed to the edge of the area and with such a simple flick, almost with his back to the goal, Daniele De Rossi got the ball into the United net, Van Der Sar really wasn’t expecting the ball to come his way and got no where near it, but its was of little consolation.

Carrick went on to get his second and substitute Evra got only his second United goal to make it 7-1 come the final whistle. Its starting to look like it could turn out to be a very profitable season for United. The treble is a very likely possibility if we are going to play like that a few more times. Hopefully now we have a few players returning from injury in the next few weeks we’ll have a full squad to fight the last few important games with and this could certainly be a year to remember. Either way this game will not be forgotten for a very long time. A lot of big clubs are going to be slightly more scared of coming to Old Trafford after see what happened there last night.

Champions League Quarter Final 2nd Leg

7-1

Michael Carrick 12, 60
Alan Smith 17
Wayne Rooney 19
Cristiano Ronaldo 44, 49
Patrice Evra 81
Daniele De Rossi 69

McDonalds Monopoly 2007

Posted by 2000mph on April 10, 2007

I get a McDonald’s for lunch most days so have managed to collect all the Monopoly stickers for this years promotion except for the rare ones that will win you the prizes. So if you manage to get any of these with your burger and fries then don’t throw it away because its a winner and all you will need is the two other matching ones which are easy to get.

  • Old Kent Road – Win a Mobile
  • Euston Road – Win a DS Nintendo
  • Northumberland Avenue – Win a iPod
  • Marlborugh Street – Win a Scooter
  • Strand – Win a Holiday
  • Coventry Street – Win a Porsche
  • Bond Street – Win £100k
  • Mayfair – Win a House
  • Liverspool Street Train Station – Win a TV

Only problem with most of those prizes is like the scooter and the car after eating enough to win one your be too fat to ride the scooter or fit in the Porsche. They should be giving away prizes like a rowing machine or other gym equipment, a personal trainer for a year, Nike trainers, or something like that.

Its really silly how Maccy D’s have tried to market themselves as a healthy choice for a while, they seem to have given that up now since they not getting much stick at the moment. The main MD’s in Birmingham recently had a face lift and now the walls are covered in slogans stating how healthy the food is and there is a giant LCD sign stating the health benefits of all there food. The walls are even glass with fake apples in them!! Its madness I tells ya!

They should just have put up a big sign saying this food is bad for you but it tastes dam good. There is nothing wrong with Maccy D’s they have great food and it is all entirely the publics fault if they get fat eating it. The only gripe I have is the happy meal, you should not encourage kids to eat fast food, you should teach them to grow up to eat responsibly and let them have the choice to eat crap when they are older.

Anyway back to the point, if anybody wants to give me the sticker for Coventry Street so I can win a Porsche I promise  I’ll let them have  a ride in it.

Pans Labyrinth the darkest of fairytales

Posted by 2000mph on April 2, 2007

I watched Pans Labyrinth on DVD the other night. I had heard it was good film and that it was described as a dark fantasy fairytale but I wasn’t expecting it to be so extreme. I mean violent war films and fantasy fairy tales don’t usually mix but thats what Guillermo del Toro’s wonderfully crafted film manages. The fantasy world that young Ofelia the main character escapes into is very imaginative and the whole film is well put together and directed.

Two stories interweave one of the Ofelia and her adventures into a fantasy realm where she must undertake tasks to prove she is a lost princess. The other is the story of her evil step father the captain of a group of soldiers out to rid the woods of a group of rebels. However it is this story that really gets your attention as the captain murders and tortures his way though the film all the way to a not so happy ending depending on your point of view.

I watched this film not expecting the level of violence and horror within its plot but it makes a startling contrast between the real and fantasy world that really takes you into the story and grips you right to the end.

Overall its a wonderfully successfully combination of two distinctly different worlds into a true work of modern day cinematic art. One to watch for sure just to experience something so vividly different to the norm.

9 out of 10.
