Turn off Adobe Reader 8 Automatic Updater

Posted by 2000mph on March 5, 2007

I hate automatic updates that I didn’t approve. Especially ones that pop up annoying little icons in my windows task bar. I hate it getting cluttered with a thousand different programs all automatically updating themselves without my permission.

Adobe Reader 8 is one of the annoying ones, this is because in the general preferences of the program there are no options to turn it off.

What you have to do is actually when it first pops up out of the blue, causing your firewall to scream blue murder at this unauthorised program trying to access YOUR internet connection, is not get annoyed and tell it to politely fuck the hell off, but actually let it check for updates and then it will present you with this screen.

Now you can tell it to get lost by clicking on preferences and unchecking automatic updates. Finally again peace is restored to your desktop once more. Begone with you now and enjoy the tranquility in the absence of annoying automatic updates once more!

Note: Although I hate the idea of automatic updates popping up all over the place without warning I do think that regular updates of programs are important for the security of your system. So take a few minutes every so often when it suits you to update your system and stay secure!
